Newington Youth fishing Derby

Since 2001 Farmington Valley Trout unlimited has been sponsoring the annual youth fishing derby held at Newington's Mill Pond. Trout and prizes are provided by various community businesses and TU volunteers. Newington's Park & Recreation Department provides administrative support and extra publicity. Free bait for the derby has been provided by Connecticut Outfitters. With an average of over 100 children signing up along with their parents, there is enough to keep the volunteers from FVTU pretty busy. TU members handled measuring stations and awarded the prizes. Prizes were awarded for largest fish, smallest fish and most fish in several age group categories. A big shout goes out to TU member Dave Charamut for making this all possible.
